HER FEET – WORKED TO THE QUICK – FORCED TO KEEP WORKING…MEET ‘BIG GIRL’, OUR APRIL BUCKET FUND MARE!

This story is so sad.  They made her continue to work, hauling.

Look at these feet!  Worn to the nubs – whipped to keep pulling.  Her previous owner said that “if you used a whip, you could get her to trot but she won’t canter”.

Hmmm.  I wonder why she won’t canter…  This boils my blood.

She had to continue to work - even after all 4 feet were worn past the wall. She can barely stand, let alone carry/pull heavy loads.

Rescued from being sold as a riding horse that ‘just needed a whip’… Her final agonizing trip to freedom and health!

BIG GIRL’S STORY!

Chilly Pepper – Miracle Mustang got a call about an older Percheron mare that was in the sale barn with horrific feet.  She was listed as a riding horse, but you ‘needed a whip and she would  not canter’.

Uh huh.  This kind of stuff kills me.  Work an animal to the bone for years and then dump her when she could no longer do her job.

Right now, she is very uncomfortable on her feet.  But, we know she can recover – with time and special attention.

The vet/foot specialist has been out… It will take at least 6 months of therapeutic trimming and molding.  She also needs her teeth done desperately.  And, she has some melanomas under her tail (common for an older, white horse) that need attention.

Can we help her?  The amount of money needed is obtainable and it would make a huge difference in this very gentle girl’s life!

She is a very good girl… Her feet are so painful – having to carry her 1350 lbs.

These nubs are chipped up beyond the wall. It is incredibly painful for her – but it can be fixed.

ANOTHER INTERESTING POINT HERE…

I wanted to let you know that Chilly Pepper – Miracle Mustang ORG was one of the very first Bucket Fund recipient ever – over 5 years ago.  I had just started the Bucket Fund and she had just started her rescue organization.

The baby in need was Honey Bandit (linked here). Does that sound familiar to any of you?  Well, he has done wonderfully since!  And, if you click this link to go to their website, you will see other babies that have come back to life via their excellent care.  They mostly deal with Mustangs (which I love) but this time, they could not turn their backs on this lovely mare.

Thank you, for all of your support and prayers for all of the Bucket Fund horses over these 5 years!  Believe it or not, Horse and Man (You) has raised over $250,000 for horses in need!  Amazing.

This was Honey Bandit, the first rescue for Chilly Pepper Rescue. He was also one of our first Bucket Fund babies. Honey Bandit is fine now - all grown. This organization does a great job.

Is the former owner being prosecuted? Would love to have an update on this mare now that she has had some tlc and vet work.
