Well, I think this is very timely…
Yesterday, when I revealed this month’s Bucket Fund Story – the “Train to Sustain” project to sponsor a pilot program to help adopt-out captive Mustangs, many of you were totally on board… and several of you were irate.
Basically, the irate people felt that we should be putting our money towards keeping the Mustangs in the wild, not training them.
Well, I agree mostly. I think we should totally do whatever we can for the captive Mustangs and YES I’d love to see them in the wild only.
Sadly, and in my humble opinion only, the captured Mustangs are probably not all going to ever be released back into the wild…as much as we’d like that. Or at least, not for a while.
HOWEVER, SOMETIMES IT DOES HAPPEN!!!!!
BANDIT’S HAPPY ENDING!
Today I found this wonderful email in my inbox which outlined exactly that – a return to freedom – for one lucky wild band. One of OUR Bucket Fund recipients!
Here is the original Bucket Fund story of Bandit and his herd of 8 who had been baited into a trap and caught. The Horse and Man Group raised the money to bail them out of the feedlot. The townspeople of Stagecoach erected a paddock and the rest… as they say… will be history.
HERE’S THE STORY:

PS:
The group that arranged this release of Bandit’s Band with DreamCatcher Sanctuary is the same group as our Bucket Fund for this month who are promoting the pilot program to train the trainable Mustangs and adopt them out.
They really do hold the Mustangs in their hearts.
HORSE AND MAN is a blog in growth… if you like this, please pass it around!

Thanks Dawn and Bucket Fund. And even though we are a sanctuary we will be the first to say we can’t keep doing this. The effort needs to be at the front end.
Like everyone else who does rescue or lifetime care via sanctuary we have to work over-time for funds. But as hard as we work for operating funds, we are now working even harder for the resources for litigation even if the dollars go to other groups.
That plea is a heavy lift. Litigation has no sad story to tell or cute photo to make its case. Its a boring, slow going process and absolutely imperative if we are to have a positive outcome down the road.
Every social movement goes through the stages we are going through, including educating the courts. So we must not grow weary nor get side-tracked by the plethora of emergencies that the opposition throws our way.
Doing the small individual things do matter but not at the coast of the big picture. Each of us can play a role in changing policy. But we must concentrate on policy not only for what Bandit lost, but the thousands of Bandits that will come after him.
We can and will prevail.
What wonderful news! Thank you!
