On St. Patrick’s Day, I got a call about a truck leaving Texas with 50 horses packed inside. The seller was asking $780 per horse and all monies had to be transacted within hours.
We had enough in The Fund to save one. ASIAB raised money overnight to save another two. So, three horses, the last to be loaded but first off the truck, were saved.
Literally, they took the first three horses by the back door of the truck.
Below is the mare we saved. Her name is Sursha, which means “Liberty” in Gaelic, perfect for being saved on ST. Patrick’s Day.
Sursha is in quarantine right now in Texas. We don’t know her age or ailments. All we know is that she is safe – and not showing any signs of illness presently. After her two week QT stay, Sursha will visit the vet who will draw blood and determine her needs. (Clearly she needs a trim, some quality food and TLC.)
Thank you all for donating to the Keep Them Off the Truck Fund. We cannot save them all, but for the one we saved, it means the world.
Meet Sursha. You saved her.
