C’MON, Really?! So this horse’s owner didn’t pay his board fees for several months so the property owners just stopped feeding him…
They didn’t bother to pick up the phone and ask anyone or any service for any kind of help at any time… Not one call to anyone. They did absolutely nothing while they watched this innocent being STARVE, knowing full well what they were doing.
They watched Brother starve to teach his owner a lesson.
Perfect. Another story of humans behaving badly.

Barely alive, but alert and ready to GET OUT OF THAT HELL! Brother was INTENTIONALLY starved because his owner didn’t pay the board bill. Brother is a 20+, affectionate and grateful draft/TB cross.

Yup. The boarding place was angry with Brother’s owner for not paying board… so they let him starve. They just stopped feeding him. No calls to anyone, no asking for help – nothing. They wanted him to starve to prove a point…
THE STORY OF HUMAN BRAVERY AND AN EQUINE’S WILL TO SURVIVE!
Luckily, a non-horse person drove by the property several times and was able to watch Brother’s decline.
She didn’t know, really, what she was seeing, but she knew it wasn’t good. So, being a very brave woman, she approached the property owners…
The story the property owners gave this do-gooder was so repulsive that she couldn’t stand it. She knew she had to help this being. So, knowing absolutely nothing about horses, she negotiated his release into her hands. And it worked! She now was responsible for a nearly dead horse…
So, the brave woman called the only horse person she knew who called another horse person who called another… and within a short time, a team was created to go get Brother.
Brother, who could barely walk… mustered his will to load.
He knew it was now or never.
SONOMA EQUINE RESCUE – LET’S HELP THEM RIGHT THIS WRONG!
Sonoma Equine Rescue, Rehabilitation and Adoption accepted Brother and jumped in with both feet! Their vet, Dr Katherine Szabo, was on hand upon Brother’s arrival to take all his vitals and assess the situation. Brother, who they believe to be a 20+ draft/TB cross, was a few hours from death…. full of worms, 500lbs underweight and his body was shutting down.
But, he had a spark! The volunteers said he seemed ‘affectionate and grateful’ – even through his pain. Brother could barely stand and the only walking he did was between his feed and water buckets… but he was grateful!
Lifted by Brother’s will, the volunteers are steadfastly doing whatever the good Doctor prescribes including feeding Brother small meals every two hours around the clock, treating his skin infections and taking care of his eyes, ears, teeth, feet… you name it.
Can we help right this wrong for Brother?! Thank you in advance.

Sonoma Equine Rescue is doing their best… he has been bathed, fed around the clock, loved and tended since he arrived! Let’s support them in this endeavor!

Mrs. H.B. Willis: I am sorry for the misunderstanding… I said it was a private home only to say that it wasn’t a boarding facility. Never did I suggest that
anyone is protecting the individuals who had possession of Brother. And, as far as I know, they are being charged.
What I was saying was that the non-horse person did her best tapdance to get the horse into her possession.
After that, our goal is to help the horse and help those who are helping the horse. The actual Rescue Facility is documenting the health of Brother
and giving that information to the police.
Protecting the people involved while expecting strangers on the internet to step up and help pay the cost of cleaning up the mess they made is hypocritical, IMO. I do not care of the “facility” is “private” or not, or if the horse owner was paying board or not.
The owner of the property had “care and custody” of the horse and therefore had a moral, ethical and LEGAL obligation to feed and care for the horse. For whatever excuse, they chose NOT to feed the horse and they chose NOT to take a legal course of action to free themselves of the obligation to feed and care for the horse. Those people are animal abusers.
I want to know why the rescue who took the horse has not called authorities now that the horse is in their hands? And again, if they are not willing to turn in the abusers, who must be known to the rescuers, who went there to get the horse, then they should not expect me or anyone else to send funds. This kind of thing just allows animal abusers to continue to aviod the prosecution they deserve.
I own and run a boarding facility of 70+ horses . Shame on who ever was running the facility !! Charges should be pressed against them as well the owner.
You just do not do that to an animal NO matter what the circumstances are !!
Now that the horse is in good hands, I hope the all the people who were aware this was happening, were part of this horrible crime, are punished. In Ca. we do have laws against this. They are the Michael Vick of the horse world.
Oooooh I am livid. Who in their right mind would let an animal starve to death to “teach a lesson”?! Its not HIS fault, and he’s the one being punished. I hope someone reports them for animal cruelty. On the same coin, who would just stop paying board for their horse? If times are tough, you figure something out, work something out, put the horse up for sale, do whatever you can, you dont just ABANDON an animal that depends on you. Furious.
It was a private property… not a boarding facility, per se. The owner kept his horse at these people’s house.
This makes me want to scream! Please tell me the stable owner has been arrested and all other animals removed from his/her possession!
