About dawndi

I've been a very happy film producer (commercial and long format) for over 20 years. But, the horses have always been foremost in my heart... Currently I live on a small ranch in California with my wonderful husband, 13 horses, 4 dogs, 3 cats and various woodland creatures. Life is good!

The story of Pacifica, who we saved last month!

Last month, we rescued a mare – now named Pacifica.

The last hour before they were to ship the next morning, we received this photo from ASIAB.  The arrow pointed to a mare that they wanted to save in addition to the 42 they had already saved.

The photo was so sad to me because all of the horses pictured, were going to ship.  If I had won the lottery (or any of you, I imagine), I would have taken them all and housed them.  But, I haven’t won the lottery – yet.  So this sad and never-ending pipeline doesn’t end – especially with hay prices what they are in the West (I pay over $35 per bale of grass hay).

Since we cannot save them all, at least we can be happy about the ones we can save.  And, you had donated enough to the Keep Them Off the Truck Fund for us to save Pacifica ($780).  THANK YOU!

This is the photo I received of the horses left in the kill pen.

HER STORY

We didn’t know much about her except that she was skinny but healthy and in her teens.  The vet said he had no idea why she was in the kill pen… Pacifica is mannered and calm and healthy.  Manners really help with adoptions, for sure.  ASAIB feels that Pacifica will be an adoption candidate very soon!

Here she is, in quarantine just a day (and a bath) after being in the kill pen. She looks great!

Here she is after she arrived at All Seated In a Barn. She had a hoof trim and that’s it! This girl is healthy and ALIVE!

AN UPDATE FROM ASIAB TODAY!

“She is doing really good! She Is gaining weight, she actually has a pen by herself to help her gain more weight since being a thoroughbred they tend to need more feed. She is incredibly kind and gentle and will get ridden for the first time next week when Brian is here.”

Very pretty girl with an awesome fly mask!

May Bucket Fund receipts! Last Chance Corral, Wild Horse Connection and All Seated in a Barn!

Welcome to my own little tornado lands here in Paso Robles… I’ve been a busybee, as you know, but it has also been very, very windy.  So odd.  I don’t remember it ever being this windy for this long – every afternoon/night.

First though, here are the flowers I received from Hubby for my birthday.  He sent ice cream and strawberries, too.  (He was out of town on work.). When he came home, we immediately had to race to the airport for a nice 3 days in Oregon – where it rained the entire time, such a relief for us thirsty Californians – for our nephew’s wedding.. and now we are home again.

BUCKET FUND RECEIPT – Last Chance Corral and Wild Horse Connection

In May, we had two Funds going.  The Bucket Fund for the Last Chance Corral and The Keep Them off the Truck Fund for whomever is left in the Killpen that we can save (reasonably).

Our receipt to Last Chance Corral.

And then a few more donations came in, so I spread the wealth and sent $50 to help this little guy!

Poor Braveheart…

For Braveheart

MAY 2022 – KEEP THEM OFF THE TRUCK FUND!

You all were very generous with this Fund in May! We were able to save a mare and a young colt.  I told you about the colt, “CC”.  Here is his story.

Poor baby CC, in the Killpen in Texas. He was so depressed.

And we saved a mare now called, “Pacifica”.  I haven’t written her story but here is a photo of her in the Killpen in Texas.

Pacifica was saved in the last hour… ASIAB sent this pic and I said YES! Her story is coming.

This is the receipt for both Pacifica and CC.

THANK YOU ALL!  MAY WAS AN OUTSTANDING MONTH.  THANK YOU.
