Here was my beautiful Mulberry tree that I had planted this summer to add shade to the pony pasture.
It was doing very, very well.
MY MISTAKE
My mistake was closing the gate between Annie and the lower 5 acres. She loves having access to HER 5 acres.
Well, I closed the gate so other horses could enjoy the 5 acres.
That was my mistake.
Annie took out her frustrations, breaking the hotwire, on my tree. She ate it.
I’m so sad.
Believe me, she isn’t hungry… she is just spoiled and emotional and bored.
I’m pretty sure the tree will die. But, I’m tending to it. I’ve pulled it totally away from her and fixed the hotwire she ate. I’m watering it and speaking gently to it.
We’ll see.

These are heartbreaking photos from San Luis Rey Downs Track. They had to release 500 horses because no trailers were allowed in before they ran out of time. Trailers were eventually let in and all the surviving horses were transferred to Del Mar Fairgrounds. You have probably read that over a dozen horses perished.
